The Challenge of Watching the World

Syria has been in the news recently, with the tragic reporting that the government has killed 13,000 of its own people. There’s a growing call that the international community ought to do something about this. Truly what is happening in Syria is a tragedy.

To our south I’ve recently seen figures that the Mexican drug wars across recent years have involved the loss of 50,000 lives. This also is a tragedy. Both Syria and Mexico need our attention for sure. Right now the ongoing Mexican drug wars, with their link to drug use in the US are getting less press than Syria. It’s a challenge to watch this big world, and address places and issues of greatest need.
