I’ve had two conversations recently about risk. Both persons had a dream, and both have worked hard, and both have had some bumps along the way. I took opportunity to pray with both persons. I prayed that their dreams would come true. In both cases there was deep appreciation.
I don’t think one measures taking a risk based on whether it will work out or not. If it’s guaranteed, if one already has all the money needed, if all the pieces are already in place, then that’s not risk. That’s just paying cash; that’s just following through.
The turning of talents into double and more, that typically involves risk – taking what one has (faith, money, talents) and investing them in an uncertainty, a possibility. In the season of investment, and through the disappointment of setback the “risker” is vulnerable, especially vulnerable to criticism. I saw this week that prayer, rooting for a bright future beyond the risk for the risk-taker was deeply appreciated. I think I’ll keep doing that: rooting for the risk-taker.
